Pool Concrete!

Wednesday of that week the pool guys came to get set up for the concrete.  They started to lay out the rebar around the pool.  And laid out the outline of pool around the outside.  Pretty much anywhere the pool went in, we went out with the concrete.  That way we would have seating areas around the pool in various places.

Then, it was time to deliver the rock.  We had previously marked a spot on the ground for it.  And when they delivered the rock they put it in the correct place...  Approximately .  However, hubby, being more exacting and having more vision than I do, was not happy with the placement.  He happened to come home for lunch to check on the progress and noticed that it was too far away from the edge of the pool and not in the place we wanted it.  Thankfully, while the pool crew had already left, the rock delivery guy had not, and he was able to move it to a more appropriate place.
That night we finished some more of the trench and went to church for regular activities.  Thursday it rained most of the day, and the pool and trenches were put on hold.  But we still went to play Ticket to Ride with the Hills.

Friday it was kind of cloudy, and we weren't 100% sure it was going to happen.  But....  they were ready to give it a go.!!!
For the record, having dogs that need to pee in the back yard, but having a backyard that is pretty much only dirt made for lots of dirty paw prints all over the place.
They put a Styrofoam form up around the top of the pool to make the edge more appealing and less dangerous.
There it is!  In all it's pre-poured glory!
 And there they are!  Pouring!
It was a lot of work.  With wheelbarrows and pouring and stuff.  And again...  HOT!!!  I am so glad that I wasn't out there!
Bug had offered to let us put our hand prints in the concrete.  So, we had to wait until it was dry enough that the hand prints would stick, and we went out to give it a try!  We were surprised at how hard we had to push to make an imprint.  But if we had done it earlier, the concrete wouldn't have held the imprint, so....
We ended up tracing around our hands with a nail to make the imprints more visible.
This picture doesn't show much of the concrete, but I find it humorous that Kari and I both look so similar.  We are wearing the same t-shirt and our hair looks remarkable similar.  Poor child.  She has no hope!
Everyone had the chance to have their hands traced.
And then it was over.  We even got Mollie's paw print.  Poor baby, we pushed hard to make an imprint, and she cried out.  She was old, and it was pretty painful. :(
And there it is!  In all its glory!  Drying slowly in the Alabama sun.
At the end of the day, the kids had a nice little lesson on how concrete dries and how it is formed and all those other important life lessons.  And I enjoyed watching my family learn and grow closer together.
Yay Concrete!
