We're Waiting

The other day I wanted some oatmeal chocolate chip cookies.  And, low and behold, there was a recipe right on the chocolate chip bag.  So, we set out the butter and waited for it to soften.  Then we had to wait for it to bake.
Now, I am pretty sure that I have mentioned before that my children love SpongeBob, but, he is not my favorite.  These pictures remind me of the particular episode where SpongeBob sent in all his boxtops and is waiting for his toy.
He sits at the mailbox singing "I'm waiting, I'm waiting, I'm waiting, I'm waiting."
And then, his friend Patrick joins him, and they sing
"We're waiting, we're waiting, we're waiting, we're waiting."
SpongeBob and Patrick aside though, they are pretty cute waiters.

Dress Up

Kaitlyn loves to play dress up.  And Dylan loves to do what Kaitlyn does.
Every younger sibling has pictures like this.  I am 100% sure.
Not all of them will admit it, but, they DO have them ;)
Kaitlyn almost always starts with her "ballet".
And Kari, of course, had to get into the picture too....
I also love how he pulls the skirt all the way up to his cute little man boobs.
Boy after his mother's heart ;)

Buckets

I don't go to the beach.  It is hot.  It is humid.  And it is sandy.
But that doesn't mean that I can't buy buckets and shovels for my children.
Who promptly put them on their head.
I am not sure what to think since Kaitlyn's is the only one who fits.
But that isn't important.  Right?  The important part is that they have fun.
And start to slightly resemble pigs.
So long as we have our priorities in order ;)

Up Late

Dylan has has a hard time going to sleep at night recently.  And with hubby being the big ol' softy that he is, he went and got Dylan up.  We let him play with us for a while, then he asked to get down, so we let him.  A few moments later, he had disappeared.  This is where I found him.  Sitting in the corner of the kitchen.  With my water bottle.

Peek a Boo, I see you Daddy :)

I won't complain.  You see, it could be worse.  Much, much worse.

Princess and the Pea

Kari took daily naps until the day she started kindergarten.  And did I love it?!?!  Heck yes I did!  I managed to work every one's schedule so that everyone took a nap at the same time, and I'd have a few free minutes in the middle of the day.  And, lets face it, sometimes a few free minutes is the difference between "nice mommy" and "crazy lady".  Now that it is summer, I have a deal with Kari.  If she will lay down and try to nap for a while, then I will come in and relieve her and let her have quiet play time.  However, this requires moving Kaitlyn into my room, so Kari has access to her toys and books when she wakes up.  Which, to be honest, Kaitlyn is totally fine with.
But, when I see her all curled up, in my rather large bed...
...  All I can think of is the Princess and the Pea :)

700

Today is my 700th post.  And what a shame it is that Blogger is being technologically challenged and won't let me load any pictures :(

I thought about hosting some kind of fabulous give away.  But, in reality, I don't have anything worth giving.  Used this, old that...  You can do better.  Then, I thought about having some kind of massive
Un-Giveaway where YOU send things to ME.  But, I doubt that would go over well either.  :)

So instead, I will just say that I doubt this will be my last.  Be prepared for me to regale you with stories of children, construction, and strange musings from my mind....  What more could a person want?

Welcome to my world

It started with Kaitlyn, whom I lovingly refer to as my Elephant Child, walking around "the track" (the wall between the kitchen and the family room) and singing her own made up song. (I will never understand how the lightest (well, only by 2 lbs, but still) of my children walks the loudest)  Dylan decided to join in, stomping and singing his own song.  And, Kari had to jump in when I broke out the camera.

Noisy, isn't it?

Happy Father's Day!

Happy Father's day to my Father in Law (who raised a fabulous man), to my Father (whom I love dearly),
And to my husband, my baby daddy, who is also a great cuddler.
What better way to spend Father's Day?

First Bath

We don't do baths at our house very often.  It is cold in the bathroom during the winter.  And, to be honest, I am not so fond of the splashing involved.  Well, the other day I gave in (we had plenty of time, and apparently I was in a good mood), and let them play in the water before we showered off.  When they all laid down to chase the water down the drain, I couldn't resist.
Show me a mother in the world who could.
Besides, I am going to need lots of ammo when they get teen aged. :)

29 for the first time

My birthday was a few days ago.  And, hubby missed most of the day, since he didn't get home until about 10:30 at night.  However, he made the next day special by taking the girls out early (allowing me to sleep in) to go birthday shopping for me.  They came home with flowers, a huge singing balloon, a carton of whoppers, and breakfast in the form of hot Krispy Kreme donuts!  What more could a girl ask for?

But wait!  There's more!

I helped to throw a baby shower that night, and while I was gone, hubby and the girls made me a birthday cake.  Its pretty gorgeous, if I do say so myself.
I love that cute chubby little hand.
We had friends over the next night to help us celebrate, and a good time was had by all.
I love how completely thrilled he looks in this picture!
Hubby also got me this necklace that I have been wanting.  I plan on wearing it this weekend!
Hubby also gave me a talking card that made rude remarks about how old I was.  He always rubs it in my face that I am just under 3 months older than he is.  That's alright...  I don't think he realizes that I just had my last aging birthday.  From this day forward, I will only turn 29 over and over again.  He, on the other hand, will only continue to get older and older...  And, you can rest assured that he will get a card of the same kind on his birthday.  Hey!  He started it!!!!

Dancing

We are fabulous dancers in this house.  At least, I like to watch the fabulous dancers: Dancing with the Stars and So You Think You Can Dance....  I also think the Backyardigans happen to be pretty good dancers.  That is what Kaitlyn and Dylan are dancing to in this video. And, if you look closely, you can see she is even trying to copy their dance moves.
This day all of the kids happened to be home (as is generally the case now that it is summer). Someone posted this song on FB, and, being the good mother that I am, I played it for my children.  All children need to be exposed to good 80's music :)

All they needed was some spandex and a frizzy side pony tail...

Waking Up

Sometimes it is hard to wake up.  So, I put them together, and let them wake each other up.
It must be harder to wake up when you have a ballet wedgie.
I love that they both still fit in the toddler bed.
I am not sure for how much longer that will happen :p

Kung Fu Fighting

This is what happens at our house after we finish watching the Karate Kid (the new one, which isn't that bad)...  Not that Daddy minds it at pretty much any time, but still...

Ballet

Kaitlyn got several hand me down leotards from her cousin.  She loves to wear them.  She wears them all the time.  She used to wear them under he clothes until we had a small accident because it took too long to get them off.  So I put a stop to that.  She calls them her "Ballet".
However, it doesn't look all that comfortable to me.....  Does it? :)

House of Cards

Sometimes it feels like everything just falls down at once, ya know?  No pity party here.  Just sayin'.
First, Dylan falls off the couch and busts his poor little lip.  Funny part:  He could possibly have prevented the injury, but that would have required him dropping his toys....  Not.  Gonna.  Happen.
Then, yesterday, Kaitlyn got into the Mary Jane.  Just Kidding!!!!
She has pink eye in both eyes.  Fabulous.
"Dylan, look at me."  giggle giggle giggle
"Dylan, where is your eye?"  "Here is!"
Yeah.  You got it too pal.
Thankfully, cards don't weigh too much or make too much noise when they all fall down :p

Watch This

Monday, June 6, 2011

Just an ordinary Saturday night

Once upon a time, not so long ago, it was a normal Saturday evening.  The kids were in bed (notice I did not say asleep), and hubby and I had settled down to watch a movie.  We were having difficulty deciding which one, when we heard a noise outside.  It sounded like thunder.  Now, let me preface this by saying A) It was supposed to rain that night, and B) we live about 3 houses down from a decently busy street/intersection.  There is an accident there, probably about once a month, and we can usually hear it pretty well.  But, we are used to it enough, that on this particular occasion, we didn't even look outside.  About 20 minutes later, there was a knock at the door.  (This was about 9:30 at night, so I am glad hubby was home)  Low and behold, there was a policeman at our door.  He said "Did you know that someone just ran over your mailbox?"

Boy, did we feel stupid.  Right in our own front yard, and we didn't even look outside.  Needless to say, the rest of the evening was interesting.  If you recall, this is approximately what the house looked like before. Notice the brick mailbox.  It has planters on either side, that have some of my favorite purple plants in them.
When we went outside on Saturday night, this is what was left.  Notice my poor purple plants.  Ironically, the ones on the right are original to the house.  The ones on the left I had just planted 3 days ago, because the previous ones had died.  It looks like they are still pretty much intact.
There were bricks and debris all over the place.
And there is my poor mailbox.  Right beside the car.
You can see just how far she travelled.  There are bricks all the way down the ditch, and the car stopped at the fence line, right between our property and the neighbors.
The next day, after the car had been pulled away.  We went out to try to clean up a bit, and there are little pieces everywhere.  It is going to be interesting when I mow the lawn for the first time :p
The driver wasn't on anything, she had swerved to miss a cat.  The cat survived, but the mailbox wasn't so lucky.
Ironically, it provided me the opportunity to meet several of my neighbors, who came to see what the noise and the flashing blue lights were.  And, it provided me the opportunity to see just how observant my children (who were supposedly in bed) are, as they later told me several details they shouldn't have known....  Sigh.

In memory of my poor, brick mailbox.

Rope Swing

Besides hanging out at Pa's house, we like to play on the rope swing.
Hubby was ingenious enough to make one.
I don't think he knew just how much time he would be spending out there.
Otherwise he might not have showed them how high they can go.
Or how much fun you can have.
I mean, look at that face! :)
He also invented the seat belt, for safety reasons, of course.  So the kids could go as high flying as they wanted to, without me worrying about them falling off...  Its balm to a mother's soul.
It goes over the head. . .
. . . and under the arms.  So, as long as your seat stays on the seat, you can only go so far.
Again.  Pure joy on that kid's face.
Daddy enjoys spending time with his kids, even if he doesn't enjoy pushing them 8,237 times.
I occasionally take turns too.  But the kids soon learn that daddy is the way to go.
Don't tell anyone, but that is by design ;)
