After driving most of the morning, we finally made it to (what hubby called) "The Big Hole"! Thankfully, even though they were operating at a lower capacity because of the budget shut down, we were still able to get in. Our first stop was at the Desert View Watchtower.
Everyone was happy to be out of the car.
And happy to be where we finally wanted to be, even if they didn't yet know what they were seeing.
This is Kelsey, right in front of the tower!
You might be able to tell from the body posture, but it was pretty dang cold. And unfortunately, some of us (*Ahem, Kelsey, Cough*) were not prepared for the chill. As a result, as the day moved on, less and less people got out at each viewing point.
Mostly, this is just random pictures of people.
And the random pictures of nice views will be in the next post.
We hit as many of the stopping points as we could, walking and looking all the places and little museum things we could see.
We ate lunch at the Maswik Food court, which was pretty good.
And we stopped at the Yavapai Geology Museum so we could learn about the area and how it was formed.
You can see how the sun affects the area too... As the sun went down, all the shadows came out.
Everywhere we stopped, the views were amazing!
Some of the views were impressive enough that we had to take a family picture in front of them.
Her slouch hat was cute, and at least it kept her head warm.
It really was quite lovely, and fun to see! And fun to show the kids something they had heard about, but never seen before, or grasped the concept of either.
