Kelsey decided that sitting in the back with her siblings was not where she wanted to be. So she came up to sit between grandpa and Jonathan. But, up in the front was a bit boring, so.... I let her borrow my phone to watch a movie.
We ended up with an unscheduled stop at the Little Colorado River Gorge. We had seen signs for it on the side of the road, and decided we needed a break to stretch our legs and go potty. We were pleasantly surprised with the scenery when we got out.
The natural land formations there are quite fascinating!
Uncle Jonathan got a bit pensive while staring into the vastness :)
From the exact spot Jonathan was in, you could look down and see what was left of the Little Colorado River. At this point in the season, it really just looked like mud. Also, looking down from that height was not my favorite.
Just a few pictures! Cuz, ya know...
Pictures or it didn't happen. Besides the fact that the views were great and the kids were cute!
Having never been to the Grand Canyon, we really didn't have any idea what to expect. This area was a pretty good preview, just on a smaller scale.
Hooray Kelsey! See those thin, legging type pants. We Alabama people don't know how to dress our children warmly unfortunately. Those will come back to bite us later.
Again, these were bigger than anything we had ever seen. But still quite small compared to the Grand Canyon,
Grandma had been able to spare a few minutes to curl Kelsey's hair that morning.
Oh look! I got Kari to smile for me too!
Kelsey wasn't as enamored with all the sprawling views as she was with the strange "dirt" that was much more accessible to her.
Grandma and Pickle preferred not to get out of the car at that moment, and were able to see everything from the windows. We actually ended up getting a lot of our souvenirs from the local artisans who had set up shop there. We got some Native American style things from there, as well as the kids got a few things too. All of this in the morning, before we ever even got to the "big hole" as hubby called it.
