Christmas in Utah, Day 14 (Temple and Haircuts)

Occasionally policies change.  And Kaitlyn happened to be a "beneficiary" of one of those changes.  It used to be that you would move up to Young Women and start attending the temple after your 12th birthday.  The policy changed to the January of the year you turn 12.  And guess who was turning 12 in 2019?  And guess who was in Utah, the Mormon Temple capital of the world, in January before she turned 12?!?!  Kaitlyn!!  We had made arrangements with our Bishop before we left.  Kaitlyn had her interview, but he couldn't print it out until Jan 1.  Once he could print it, he emailed it to us, and we were ready to go!  They had also recently announced some changes to the wording of some of the ordinances earlier in the week.  Both of those things combined meant that the temple was suuuuuuuper busy!!!  However, we had a lovely experience that morning.  It was Kaitlyn's first opportunity to do baptisms for the dead, and it also happened to be hubby's first opportunity to participate.  Kari was able to show them both the ropes a little bit, and I was a helper, handing out towels and stuff.  We left the temple, but discovered that Kari had accidentally left her watch/phone in the dressing room.  I called to confirm it was there, but had to leave to get my haircut.  So I sent hubby back to get it. Ironically, while he was there, he bumped into a family that used to be in our ward in Alabama, but happened to be visiting in Utah to attend the wedding of a missionary that served in our ward as well!  I love how being a member of the church can make connections in unlikely places!

Aunt Pickle has a girl that cuts curly hair.  She has been specially trained to be able to do it well.  So I take advantage of it whenever I am out there.  And, since Kari's hair seems to be as curly as mine, we got her a good haircut too!
Besides cutting the hair, she teaches us how to do it properly, so we can get similar results every time and so it doesn't damage our hair.  Check out those curls!!!
Then it was my turn!
And here we are!  Lots of curly headed people!!!
While Kari and I were getting our hairs did, hubby and the other kids were at home packing.  Hubby is quite talented at playing tetris, so he was at home carefully packing all the gifts and clothes that we got into the bags and extra bag we brought, making sure we weren't over weight, and protecting everything as well as we could.  It was very nice that it was mostly done when we got home!
