Football Opening Ceremonies

While hubby used to do the rec league football thing, I had never done it.  And neither of us had done it here, so we weren't 100% sure what we were getting into.  Saturday morning was the opening ceremonies of the football league.  Each boy from each team was able to walk on the football field and be recognized.
They stood there while all of the teams walked on the field and everyone was recognized.
To be clear, there were actually several teams! Boys were supposed to be assigned in a somewhat random way, so that one team was not overloaded with bigger, experienced players and one team was not overloaded with players like Dylan who had literally never played before.
After the ceremonies, the boys changed into their official gear and went in to take pictures.  I am glad they took them before the game, otherwise they would look very different.
And then it was onto the first official game of the year.  This is picture that ended up on Dylan's trophy for the year.  It looks like he knew what he was doing!  Well done man!
Dylan had never played in an actual game before.  And unfortunately, as practices wore on, it became more and more clear that football probably wasn't his thing.  Football is essentially all about hitting and being hit, and I can't say that I blame him for not thinking that is fun.
Again, he enjoyed the strategy, and he enjoyed learning about all the different positions that he was able to play.
Also, for point of reference, September in Alabama is still pretty dang hot.  With helmet and pads and not exactly breathable uniform, he was warm.  But, the rest of us, sitting in the baking sun were also pretty dang hot.
Dylan was actually pretty good at breaking blocks.
 Way to go bud!
And, for all he didn't love it, he was actually not too shabby at setting up blocks either.
He looks like an actual football player in his gear!
Atta boy!  Look tough!  Way to intimidate them!
His coach had the boys hold hands in the huddle.  I know that the boys thought it a bit odd, but it did make them all feel part of the team.
Way to go bud!  I am super proud of you for doing something different, and sticking with it when it got hard.
 Good game!
The standard after game talking to...  what they did well, what they could do better.
After the game we all came home for a family swim.  We were all hot and sweaty...  what could be better?
