COVID Renovations: Craft Closet

Upstairs, in the hall, we have this strange sort of nook.  The builder "offered" to turn it into a closet for an exorbitant amount of money (seriously, like $5000!!!  Which is a lot when you haven't even started building the dang house yet!  Its not like they had to knock down walls or anything!).  We thought about adding a really cool fish tank there, but A) not many people would see it because it was upstairs in the private/bedroom areas, B) I was a bit worried about the weight in that one area, and C) I was concerned about water on a carpeted area.  We have had a 10 gallon, freshwater tank before...  with plain old gold fish that lasted a surprisingly long amount of time.  That area would need a 50 gallon tank, with something for it sit on that could support the weight.  And, if we were going to put a cool tank up there, we wanted to go the salt water route because it looks so much cooler and has so much cooler inhabitants.  Looking at all that just kept ringing dollar signs in my head.  Plus, who was going to be the party responsible for water testing and feeding and cleaning the tank, etc?  So....  we went the lazy route.

I had been frustrated at the closet downstairs in the guest room for a long time.  There was too much stuff in there for the children to be able to keep it organized (seriously...  just put things back where they came from!) and the cheap plastic drawer sets that we got were falling apart.

Hubby had a great idea!  Why not use that strange nook upstairs for a craft cabinet.  We could figure out the fish tank later, in a more convenient place that more people could see it.  That is where the cabinet from Home Depot came in!  So, we hauled all the pieces upstairs, and started the assembly process.

The dogs were pressed into modeling the nook space for us.

When we were done, the hallway looked like this!  We wanted to put maybe a green plant on top or something, to take up that vertical visual space.  We looked for a few weeks after and couldn't find anything in our price range (who knew that artificial plant arrangements are over $150?!?!).  And since then have pretty much forgotten about it....
The downstairs closet now looks like this.

And hubby was able to figure out ways to make all the craft stuff fit in the cabinet, in an organized fashion.  He's pretty good at organization is hubby.  I had to go through all the stuff, and make sure we still wanted to keep everything.  But, hubby then put it all away.

Some things ended up going in the "things drawers" in the kitchen...  So I took a picture of how pretty those looked too!
